$8.99Pamětihodnosti městaA Singapore audio walk can take you through the spice markets and temple towers of Little India and Kampong Glam one day, then along the river to the Merlion and the futuristic towers of Marina Bay Sands the next, each route timed stop by stop.
The Little India Walk starts at the painted gopuram of the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on Serangoon Road, passes the sprawling Mustafa Centre and the fierce goddess carvings of the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, then slows down at the restored shophouses of Little India Arcade. From the green and cream Abdul Gafoor Mosque, the route crosses into Kampong Glam to the golden domes of the Sultan Mosque and finishes among the murals and boutiques of Haji Lane, about 2.8 kilometers and 40 minutes in all.
The Marina Bay Walk starts at the colonial era Raffles Hotel, passes the white spire of St Andrew's Cathedral and the columned halls of the National Gallery, then reaches the river at the Raffles Landing Site. From there it follows the water across Cavenagh Bridge past the Fullerton Hotel to the Merlion, over the double helix footbridge, and finishes at the three towers of Marina Bay Sands, about 3.5 kilometers and 48 minutes.
Together the two walks lay out two very different Singapores a short ride apart, the spice smells and temple bells of the old ethnic quarters against the glass towers and reclaimed land of the bay. Both are flat and easy underfoot, so plan around the heat instead, setting off by eight or nine in the morning or around four in the afternoon so you finish as the lights come on over the water.
Několik zastávek, které potkáte cestou, a důvody, proč u nich stojí za to zpomalit.

Serangoon Road is the spine of Little India, Singapore's oldest South Asian neighborhood, and on festival days it's strung overhead with bright decorative lamps shaped like oil lamps and lotus flowers. The street runs past the towered gopurams of two Hindu temples, the vast Mustafa Centre department store that never really closes, and shophouses with ground floors full of spice sacks, gold jewelry and jasmine garlands. The covered five foot ways in front of the shops keep you out of the sun and the sudden afternoon showers. It's at its busiest and most colorful on Sunday evenings, when the neighborhood's workers and families fill the street for shopping and a meal.

The golden domes of the Sultan Mosque rise at the end of Bussorah Street, a palm lined pedestrian lane in Kampong Glam, the old Malay and Arab quarter named for the gelam trees that once grew along this shore. The present mosque dates to the late 1920s, and a dark band around the base of each dome is made from the ends of glass bottles donated by poorer worshippers so everyone had a part in building it. Street names nearby, Muscat, Baghdad and Bussorah, an old spelling of Basra, recall the traders who settled here. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times, with robes lent at the entrance, and the surrounding lanes are full of fabric shops, carpet sellers and Middle Eastern cafes.

Little India Arcade is a block of restored two story shophouses from the early twentieth century, painted in the bright colors this neighborhood is known for and packed with the trades that built its reputation. Henna artists paint patterns on hands, stalls sell glass bangles in every color and hand strung jasmine and marigold garlands for temple offerings, and the scent of spices sold by the scoop drifts into the covered walkway out front. Across the road, Tekka Centre holds a wet market and hawker stalls good for biryani or roti prata, and the Indian Heritage Centre sits just across the lane. It's the best place on the walk to slow down, browse and watch the neighborhood's old trades still at work.

Cavenagh Bridge is a white painted iron suspension bridge opened in 1869, its ironwork shipped out from Glasgow, and it carries an old police notice forbidding cattle and heavy vehicles from crossing, a reminder of the bullock cart era. It's for walkers only now, strung with lights after dark, and bronze figures along the riverbank recall the coolies and bumboats that once crowded this stretch of water. Across the bridge rises the massive, columned Fullerton Building, finished in 1928 on the site of an old fort and for decades home to the General Post Office. It reopened as a hotel in 2001, and its grand lobby is worth a look even if you're only passing through on foot.

The Merlion, a statue with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, spouts a steady arc of water into Marina Bay at the mouth of the Singapore River. It was designed in 1964 as a tourism logo and unveiled as a statue in 1972, and the lion comes from an old story of a Sumatran prince who named the island Singapura, the lion city, after spotting one on its shore. From the park's edge you get the classic view across the water, the towers of Marina Bay Sands directly opposite and the spiky aluminum domes of the Esplanade arts center off to one side. At night the statue and the skyline behind it light up, and it's one of the most photographed spots on the whole route.
