$6.99Điểm nổi bật thành phốA Gamla Stan audio walk keeps entirely to Stockholm's oldest island, a knot of ochre lanes barely two kilometers across that still holds a royal palace, a coronation church, the narrowest alley in the city and the square where its darkest day unfolded.
The walk begins on the quiet islet of Riddarholmen, a short bridge west of the main old town, where the cast iron spire of Riddarholmen Church has marked the burial place of Swedish monarchs for centuries. Crossing back over, you pass the Riddarhuset, the House of Nobility, whose pink and grey baroque facade marks the start of Gamla Stan proper, before the lanes pull you inward toward the island's main square.
At the center waits Stortorget, the oldest square in the city, ringed with gabled merchant houses in ochre and gold and shadowed by the memory of the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520. From there it's a short step to Storkyrkan, the coronation church of the Swedish crown, and then to the Royal Palace itself, one of the largest palaces in the world still in use by a head of state, with more than a thousand rooms wrapped around a central courtyard.
The last stretch drops into the eastern lanes, past the bronze Saint George at Köpmantorget and down through Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, a stepped alley barely ninety centimeters wide at its tightest. The walk ends at Järntorget, the old Iron Square, a calm spot for a coffee after 1.9 kilometers and about 28 minutes of cobbled walking.
Một vài điểm dừng bạn sẽ đi qua và lý do tại sao chúng xứng đáng để bạn đi chậm lại và thưởng thức.

These narrow merchant houses, painted in ochre, rust red and soft green, are the classic face of Gamla Stan, Stockholm's oldest island and the place the whole city began some eight hundred years ago. Each facade leans slightly with age, stepped gables and small round windows packed tightly along lanes too narrow for any car. Look closely at the ironwork over the doors, since Gamla Stan rewards looking up as much as ahead. The island is small enough that you can't get lost for long, which frees you to duck down any lane that catches your eye. Early morning light picks out the colors best, before the crowds arrive.

This is the view back toward Gamla Stan from across the water, the old town's spires and gabled roofs catching the light above the moored boats of the harbor. A gilded crown, the kind that decorates bridges and buildings all over the city, sits in the foreground, a reminder of how often Stockholm reaches for royal symbols even on ordinary street furniture. The water has always been the point, since Stockholm is spread across fourteen islands and this channel was the route that made the old town rich. Boats still crowd the moorings much as they would in the city's trading centuries, just with engines instead of sails.

Stortorget is the oldest square in Stockholm and the postcard image of Gamla Stan, a row of tall gabled merchants' houses in warm ochre, red and gold ringing an open cobbled space full of cafe tables. It's cheerful today, but it carries a dark memory, since this was the site of the Stockholm Bloodbath in 1520, when a Danish king had scores of Swedish nobles executed here in a single day, helping spark the rebellion that made Sweden independent. Look for the cannonball said to be lodged in one facade. The old stock exchange on the north side now holds the Nobel Prize Museum. Sit with a coffee and watch the square fill.

Beside Storkyrkan, the cathedral where Swedish monarchs have long been crowned, stands the Royal Palace, Kungliga slottet, one of the largest palaces in the world still used by a reigning head of state. Its baroque facade, more than a thousand rooms wrapped around a central courtyard, replaced an older castle that burned down three hundred years ago. The king still uses it as his official residence, and parts of the palace are open to visitors, including the state apartments, the treasury with the crown jewels, and an armory of royal carriages. Around midday you can often watch the changing of the guard in the courtyard.

A short bridge west of the main island of Gamla Stan carries you onto Riddarholmen, where the cast iron lattice spire of Riddarholmen Church rises over the water, one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm, begun as a monastery church seven hundred years ago. For centuries it has been the burial place of Swedish monarchs, almost every king and queen since the Middle Ages, which gives the plain brick exterior a quiet weight. Seen from across the water at dusk, as here, the spire and the old palaces around it reflect in the still harbor. The islet is calm and largely empty of the crowds in Gamla Stan's main lanes.
