$9.99Điểm nổi bật thành phốA Mumbai audio walk leads you from the Gateway of India through the old Fort district, past Art Deco cinemas, a Gothic museum and a carved railway terminus, with narration timed to each stop while the city's morning traffic builds around you.
The walk begins at the Gateway of India, the basalt arch finished in 1924 to mark a royal visit, with the red domed Taj Mahal Palace hotel rising right beside it. From there you'll pass the bronze statue of Shivaji and walk inland to Regal Circle, a busy roundabout where the Wellington Fountain stands in front of the Art Deco Regal Cinema, with the Gothic police headquarters and the domed National Gallery of Modern Art close by.
Heading north you'll reach the domed city museum, still often called the Prince of Wales Museum, then the Oval Maidan's cricket grounds and the eighty five meter Rajabai Clock Tower, finished in 1878 and once the tallest building in the city. The road continues to Flora Fountain, the five way junction with its old secondhand book stalls that still marks the center of the Fort district.
From there it's a short walk east to Horniman Circle, a ring of arcaded buildings from the 1860s wrapped around a quiet garden, with the neoclassical Town Hall and its Asiatic Society library on one side. The walk ends at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the ornate Victorian Gothic railway station finished in 1888. In total it's about 3.5 kilometers, roughly 51 minutes of walking across seven stops, best done early before the heat and the traffic build.
Một vài điểm dừng bạn sẽ đi qua và lý do tại sao chúng xứng đáng để bạn đi chậm lại và thưởng thức.

The Gateway of India is the city's best known landmark, a basalt triumphal arch standing right at the water's edge in Colaba. It was built to mark the 1911 visit of King George V and Queen Mary, though the stone arch you see today, designed by George Wittet, was not finished until 1924. The wide plaza in front stays busy from early morning to late evening with locals, vendors and visitors, and boats to Elephanta Island leave from the jetty close by. Behind the plaza rises the red dome of the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, opened in 1903. Give yourself time here before heading inland, since both the crowds and the harbor views reward a slow look.

This is the most extravagant railway station most walkers will ever see, built as Victoria Terminus and completed in 1888. The architect Frederick William Stevens wrapped a working train station in Victorian Gothic towers and domes, then let local craftsmen cover the stone in carved peacocks, gargoyles and foliage. India's first passenger train left from near this site in 1853, and the station was renamed for Shivaji in 1996, with UNESCO listing it as a World Heritage Site in 2004. Suburban trains pour commuters through it by the million every day, so find a spot across the junction to take in the whole front before stepping inside.

Horniman Circle is the calmest spot on this walk, a ring of matching arcaded buildings from the 1860s wrapped around a shady garden with old trees and quiet paths. On its east side stands the Town Hall, finished in 1833, a white neoclassical building with tall Doric columns and a wide flight of steps that has appeared in countless films. Inside is the library of the Asiatic Society, with high ceilings and rare manuscripts. The circle was renamed for Benjamin Horniman, a British newspaper editor who was deported for supporting Indian independence. Sit in the garden for a few minutes before moving on toward the station.

The Rajabai Clock Tower rises about eighty five meters above the university library at its base, and when it was finished in 1878 it was the tallest building in Mumbai. It was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, who also worked on London's St Pancras station, and its Venetian Gothic dress is often compared to Big Ben. The money came from the stockbroker Premchand Roychand, who named it for his mother. From the edge of the Oval Maidan, where cricket matches go on most days, you can see the tower against a row of Art Deco apartment blocks on the far side of the grass, two chapters of the city's architecture in one view.
