I really like the idea. Seems like I'm the first walker in my city, but the concept is exactly what I wanted.

A pub crawl is just a walk with better stops

Between the pubs, it is a walk, and the app is very good at organising the walk between the pubs.

Set the crawl up as its own walk

A walking pub crawl lives or dies on organisation, and the app hands you the tools for it. Create the walk, set it to Social, and use the title and description to lay out the theme and the running order, links included if you want to point at each stop. The purpose marker tells people this is a sociable evening rather than a fitness session, so the crowd that gathers is there for the right reasons. Give it a participant limit so the group stays a manageable size, and your crawl has a proper guest list instead of a chaotic free for all.

Round up a pack

A crawl is better with a regular crew, and a Walk Pack is how you keep one. Pull together a small group of up to five, use the pack chat to pick the date and the first pub, and you have a standing group that does this more than once. The chat keeps the plans and the aftermath in one place, so the next crawl is half organised before anyone even suggests it. It quietly turns a one off night into a bit of a tradition, which is exactly what the best pub crawls become when the same faces keep showing up.

Map the route between the stops

The walking part of a pub crawl is the part that goes wrong without a plan, so pin it properly. When you create the walk you can drop up to five itinerary stops along the route, one per pub if you like, and you can also set the meeting point, starting point and destination as separate places, so nobody is squinting at a phone on a corner wondering where the group went. Everyone can see the full path before the first drink, which keeps the group together as the evening loosens up. It is the difference between a well run crawl and a scattered trail of people lost between two pubs.

How to plan a walking pub crawl that holds together

A walking pub crawl is a night out where a group walks between a few pubs or bars instead of staying in one. The walking between stops is part of the evening: it keeps the pace slow and the group talking.

Ten people meet outside the first pub at 7pm, with four stops planned and a last train at 11:40pm from the far side of town. Most crawls that go wrong don't fall apart at the bar: they fall apart on the walk between, when the group splits at a crossing or a stop turns out to be half an hour away. Three or four stops, each 5 to 15 minutes' walk from the last, is plenty for one evening. Put the final stop near a station or a night bus, so the end of the night is a short walk too.

A big group changes things at the bar as well. Many pubs struggle to serve or seat a crowd that arrives all at once, so for anything over about eight people it's worth calling ahead or choosing bigger venues. Eat before or along the way, have a soft drink at one of the stops, and agree on a finish time at the start rather than at midnight. Nobody should walk home alone, so work out who's heading which way before the last stop.

Walk With Me puts that whole plan, from the meeting point through the stops to the last pub, on a map everyone sees before they ask to join. People nearby find the crawl on the live map, you approve each request by default, and the walk chat keeps the details in one place for the night. It's free on iPhone and Android, so the only bill is at the bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A walking crawl works just as well with soft drinks, and the walk between stops is half the point. Hosts can say in the description if a crawl is drinks-optional or alcohol-free.

As many as the host allows. When you create the walk you set a participant limit, and join requests come to you for approval by default, so the group stays a size the pubs can handle.

Yes. The walk shows its meeting point, stops and destination to anyone who can see it, so people know where the night goes before they ask to join. You can add up to five stops along the route.

It has safeguards, and the rest is good sense. Hosts approve who joins by default, the walk's pin on the public map is shifted by up to 200 meters, and you can block anyone in one tap and report them from their profile. There's no SOS button, so plan how everyone gets home before the night starts.

Yes. Set the walk to Friends, or to Just me and invite people directly. Friends-only and private walks are enforced by the server, so strangers can't see or join them.

No. Finding, joining and creating walks is free on iPhone and Android. You pay for whatever you order along the way.
