How you play Geo Guessing

One photo, one pin each and a clock. The closest guess takes the XP.

Snap a photo on your walk

Open Geo Guessing from the games menu and take a photo with the in-app camera, live, never from your gallery. The round is pinned to where you are when you post it, so pick somewhere worth guessing: a quirky corner, a view, a street only locals would know.

Set the round

Choose who can play, Friends only or Public, and how long the round runs: 1, 6, 24, 48 or 72 hours, with a day as the default. The photo goes up in the Walk Feed with one question: can you guess where this photo was taken?

Drop your pin

Everyone who sees the round drops one pin on the map where they think it was taken. Stuck? One hint a week reveals the city and state, as long as you use it before you guess. Once you guess you see how close you got, but everyone else's pins stay hidden until the round ends.

See who got closest

When time is up, the card reveals the place and the three closest guesses with their distances. The closest pin wins 25 XP, and a tie goes to whoever guessed first.

Rules and fair play

Geo Guessing rewards knowing your surroundings, not gaming the round.

  • One guess per person per round, and you can never guess your own photo.
  • The closest pin wins 25 XP, and a tie goes to the earlier guess. XP is paid only when at least three people played, so a round between your own accounts earns nothing.
  • Photos come from the in-app camera only, never your gallery.
  • No guesses after the deadline, and every round pays out exactly once.
  • Your name stays hidden until the round ends, and so does your walk's route. Anyone who has guessed gets to see where the photo was taken, so post spots you're happy to share.
  • You can have up to three rounds running at once.

I really like the idea. Seems like I'm the first walker in my city, but the concept is exactly what I wanted.

What is a Geo Guessing?

A location-guessing walking game: one player shares a photo from their walk, everyone else drops a pin where they think it was taken, and the closest pin wins.

Guessing where a photo was taken is already a favourite online pastime, usually with street imagery from anywhere in the world. Geo Guessing brings it back to your own walks. The photos come from real people on real walks, so the clues are the things you notice on foot: a shop sign, a church spire, the slope of a street.

It fits around a walk you were taking anyway. Snap something on your loop, post it and carry on, while the round runs on its own and your friends puzzle over it. Locals have the edge on their own streets, and a photo from a trip turns everyone back home into a detective.
