Your privacy and data security are our top priorities
Walk With Me was founded to connect people through the simple joy of walking together.
And now, we've evolved into a platform that connects walkers worldwide, empowering users to build communities, stay active, and make meaningful connections, one step at a time.
When we talk about Walk With Me, we refer to Kinetik (also known simply as "Walk With Me", "we", "us", or "our" in this policy). This Policy explains how we process your personal information. It applies any time you're using the Walk With Me mobile application ("App"), and to your use of our "Sites", which includes our websites like walkwithme.fit, and other digital products and services. We also suggest you read our Terms and Conditions of Use.
Have any questions about this Policy? Just Contact Us at support@walkwithme.fit and we'll be happy to help.
GOOD TO KNOW
We will need to change this Policy from time to time, but the most current version (at walkwithme.fit/privacy-policy) controls how we use your information. Be sure to regularly check for updates, but we will let you know by email or in-app notification of any material or significant changes.
You Take the First Step by using the Walk With Me App or Sites, which is when we collect some information about you. While enjoying our App and Sites, you can also choose to share information with people you connect with, such as other walkers, your friends, and walk hosts.
We are responsible for taking care of all the personal information we collect and you share with us. According to the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") of 27 April 2016 and other applicable personal data laws, we are the data "controller" for all personal information collected and processed through our App and Sites.
The type of information collected or shared depends on the specific situation and what exactly you are doing. Others using the App might be able to see some of your Registration Information when they view your profile page or when you join walks together.
When you create a Walk With Me account in the App or on our Sites, we collect certain information about you to run your account and keep the community safe. This can include:
Some gender options can reveal information about your sexual orientation or gender identity, so we treat your gender as sensitive information. We use it only to show you walks you are eligible for (for example, Women Only or LGBTQ+ Only walks) and to apply the walk filters you choose. It is never used for advertising.
After you register, you can change this information at any time through your account settings. You are responsible for making sure your account details are kept up to date, particularly if your email or phone number changes.
We want to help simplify and enhance your walking experience. One way we do this is by making it possible for you to use your other social media accounts during your Walk With Me experience. Just be aware that it means sharing with us some of the personal data you shared with these social networks.
Using social media accounts to register or sign in to Walk With Me
Google: If you choose to register or sign in using your Google account, you give Google permission to share your name, email address, and profile picture with us.
Apple ID: If you choose to register or sign in with your Apple ID, you give Apple permission to share with us:
You can choose to use your personal email, or Apple will create and use a random email address so your personal email can stay private.
We will then use the personal information we receive from Google or Apple to form your Walk With Me account. If you remove the Walk With Me app from your Google or Apple ID settings, we will no longer have updated access to this information.
A phone number is optional. You can create an account and use Walk With Me with just a verified email address.
If you choose to add a phone number, we verify it by sending a one-time code by SMS through our partner Twilio. A verified phone number is used to:
We do not check government ID documents or take selfies to verify your profile. Organizers are identity-checked separately by our payment partner, Stripe (see section 5).
GOOD TO KNOW
If your account is blocked for any reason due to violations of our Community Guidelines, our anti-fraud and anti-spam procedures will prevent you from creating new accounts using the same phone number or email.
You can buy three kinds of things on Walk With Me, and each is handled a little differently:
Subscriptions (Premium plans): bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play and managed for us by RevenueCat. We receive the product you bought, the store, the purchase and renewal dates, and whether it is active. Apple or Google handle your payment details; we never see them.
Audio tours: one-time purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play, also managed by RevenueCat. We keep a record of which tours you own so you can play them on any device.
Tickets for paid walks and tours: paid by card through Stripe, in the App or on our Sites. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store your card number. Stripe keeps a customer record linked to your email so you can reuse a saved card. We store the booking itself: which walk, the amount, currency, number of seats, status (for example confirmed, cancelled, or refunded), and when your ticket was checked in at the walk.
What we keep after you delete your account: purchase and booking records are financial records, so we keep them after account deletion to meet tax and accounting rules and to handle refunds and chargebacks. To stop the same person claiming a free trial more than once, we also keep a small trial-eligibility record (your email and, if you gave one, your phone number).
To prevent fraudulent payments from being processed, we and our payment partners use automated checks on payment information and transactions. We may automatically block any transaction that is likely to be fraudulent. If a transaction is blocked, the relevant person will be notified that their transaction cannot be processed and can contact us to contest the decision.
If you apply to host paid walks or tours, we collect extra information to review your application and pay you:
Payouts run through a Stripe Connect account. Stripe collects your identity, bank, and tax details directly and verifies them; we do not store them. We only receive the status of your account (for example, whether payouts are enabled or more information is needed).
Your public organizer page on our Sites is off by default. It only goes live if you switch it on.
If you give Walk With Me access to your location in your device settings, we collect your device's location to personalize your App experience and make it easier for you to discover walks near you and connect with other walkers. This can include your longitude and latitude and information about nearby WiFi access points.
For example:
During a live walk:
GOOD TO KNOW
You can always turn off location access if you ever change your mind:
Keep in mind that disabling location services will limit your ability to discover nearby walks and may affect the core functionality of the App.
Walk With Me can connect to Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iPhone). Connecting is optional, each type of data is asked for separately from the screen that uses it, and you can remove access at any time.
What we read:
We only store totals (per day, and per hour for steps), not the individual readings from your health app. We do not read heart rate, heart rate variability, or any other health data.
What we write back (only if you allow it):
Motion sensor: during a live walk, the App also uses your phone's motion sensor to count the steps you take on that walk.
How we use it: to show your daily steps, streaks, and goals; to run step rankings, challenges, and milestones; to show your sleep, recovery, and calorie cards; and to let Rex, your coach, give you advice (see section 8).
Who can see it:
What we never do: we never sell your health data, never share it with advertisers, and never use it to target ads.
How long we keep it: until you delete your account. Removing Walk With Me's access in Health Connect or Apple Health stops new data from syncing, but it does not delete the data we have already synced. To have that deleted, delete your account or email us at support@walkwithme.fit.
If you use the Progress features, we store what you enter there: weight, height, target weight, notes, meals and calorie intake, and progress check-in photos. Check-in photos are encrypted and kept in private storage that only your account can access.
Rex, your coach: Rex is powered by Claude, an AI model from Anthropic. To coach you, Rex sends Anthropic your first name, your city and country, and a summary of your recent activity: steps, streaks, sleep and recovery, calories, and your weight trend, along with your messages to Rex. Rex keeps short notes about your goals and preferences so it remembers them next time, and your conversations with Rex are stored on your account. You can turn Rex off at any time in Settings > Progress; while it is off, nothing is sent to Anthropic for coaching.
Meal photos: if you photograph a meal, the photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude to estimate its calories and is then discarded. We keep only the meal entry.
Future You: if you are 18 or older and give your explicit consent, a check-in photo and the daily step goal you pick are sent to Google Gemini to create an illustration of your possible progress.
When you use the App, we collect information about your device for the purposes described in this Policy. This can include your device's model and operating system, a push notification token, your IP address, and log and usage data. This helps us:
Your profile photo helps other walkers recognize you and connect with you. We store photos you upload (profile, cover, gallery, and walk photos) in Supabase cloud storage and display them to other users based on your privacy settings. Walk photos can include the place they were taken.
Photos and text you post publicly (such as walk descriptions, your bio, and feed posts) are checked automatically for prohibited content (see "Moderation Practices").
If you choose to invite friends from your phone's contacts, the App sends the email addresses in your contacts to our servers only to check which of them already use Walk With Me. The addresses are compared and then discarded. We never store your contacts, and we never contact them without you.
You might come across some links while using our App or Sites (such as links to walking routes, maps, or external resources). If you use them, we can keep track of how you interact with links, including to third-party services that we are not responsible for, by monitoring redirecting clicks or other methods.
We want to facilitate genuine connections while also maintaining a safe community. Here's how we handle your messages:
Whispers (Direct Messages) and WalkChat (walk group chats): these messages are deleted automatically 24 hours after they are sent. WalkChat messages are visible to everyone on that walk.
Pack chats: messages in your walking pack's chat are kept so the pack keeps its history, until they are deleted with the account that sent them.
We also store when you last read a conversation, so we can show read receipts and unread counts. We do not read, monitor, or share the content of your private messages, and we do not send your chat messages to AI services, except as necessary to:
We keep track of your walking activity to provide you with meaningful statistics and help you track your progress. This includes:
When a walk ends, we keep a record of it, including who took part (name, username, and photo at the time of the walk) and the host's route.
From time to time, we may contact you to see if you would like to take part in a research survey, provide feedback or a testimonial, or be part of a marketing campaign. For example, if you've had a great experience building a walking community, we might ask if you want to be featured in Walk With Me advertising. We will provide you with more information when we contact you with any such request.
You can always say no and your participation is completely optional, but if you don't want to be contacted regarding these requests, just tell our Customer Support Team via our support email.
When you view someone's profile or walk, we record the view so they can see who has viewed them. View records are deleted after 30 days.
If you contact our Customer Support team via email, the contact form on our Sites, or in-app support, we will receive your email address and the information you share with us to help resolve your request. We may also track your IP address for security purposes.
We keep records of our email communications with you for up to 6 years after your account is deleted. This helps us maintain accountability and improve our services.
What's a cookie?
A cookie is a small file placed on your device or internet browser that allows a website to recognize and remember you. Here is how our Sites use them:
Our main goal: give you an enjoyable Walk With Me experience as you connect with fellow walkers and build healthy habits.
We use the information we collect to:
Provide and improve our services:
Keep our community safe:
Communicate with you:
Personalize your experience:
Comply with legal obligations:
Walk With Me uses your location, preferences, and activity patterns to show you relevant walks. Here's how it works:
Location-based discovery: We use your location to show you walks happening nearby. You control how far you're willing to travel by adjusting your search radius.
Preference matching: Based on your stated preferences (pace, terrain, walk duration, interests, gender preferences), we prioritize walks that align with what you're looking for.
Social connections: We may suggest walks hosted by your friends or people in your network to help you build meaningful connections.
Activity patterns: Over time, we learn when you prefer to walk and what types of walks you enjoy, helping us surface the most relevant opportunities.
You have control over your discovery settings and can adjust your preferences at any time. If you prefer not to be discovered by others, you can make your profile private or switch to Solo mode.
We take safety seriously. Our moderation practices include:
Automated screening: Text and photos you post publicly (walk titles and descriptions, bios, profile, cover and walk photos, pack names, and feed posts) are checked by Google Gemini, an AI model, for prohibited content before or after they go live. We keep a log of these checks, including the text that was checked, to handle appeals and repeat abuse.
User reports: When someone reports inappropriate behavior, our team reviews the report and takes appropriate action, which may include warnings, account suspension, or permanent bans.
Human review: Serious violations are reviewed by our safety team to ensure fair and accurate enforcement of our policies.
Appeals: If your account is suspended or restricted, or your content is removed, you have the right to appeal the decision by contacting our support team.
We process your personal information under the following legal bases:
Performance of contract: We need your information to provide you with our services, including creating your account, connecting you with other walkers, processing your walk requests, and completing your purchases and bookings.
Legitimate interests: We process your data to improve our services, prevent fraud and cheating, and maintain a safe community. We believe these interests are balanced with your privacy rights.
Consent: We ask for your explicit consent before reading your health data, using your contacts, using your location, showing personalized ads where the law requires it, and creating a Future You image. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings or in the App.
Legal obligations: We may process your data to comply with applicable laws, keep required financial records, and respond to legal requests.
We think everyone deserves to feel safe while making connections, so we've built features that let you control what you share and with whom. Our App is designed to help you connect with other walkers while respecting your privacy.
Your profile information: Other users can see your profile picture, name, username, bio, interests, and walking preferences. You control what you include in your bio and interests.
Your location: The meeting point of a walk is visible to everyone who can see the walk. Other walkers see how far away you are, not where you are. During a live walk, positions are shared as described in "Geolocation Information".
Your walking statistics and steps: Your walks, distance, streaks, and step counts can appear on your profile, on rankings in the App, and on the public leaderboard on our Sites. You choose what you share under Settings > What I share, and Solo mode shares nothing.
Your friends list: By default, your friends list is visible to your friends. You can change this to private in your settings.
Walk participation: When you join a walk, other participants can see that you're attending. Walk hosts can see your profile when you request to join their walk, and organizers see the name on each booking for their paid walks.
You have three privacy options for walks you create:
Public: Anyone can discover and request to join your walk. This is great for building community and meeting new people.
Friends Only: Only your friends can see and join your walks. This is perfect for organizing walks with people you already know.
Private: Only people you specifically invite can join. Use this for intimate walking groups or one-on-one walks.
You can also set gender preferences for your walks:
These preferences help create safe, inclusive spaces for all walkers.
In order to help you make connections and provide an enjoyable Walk With Me experience, it might sometimes be necessary to share some personal information. But rest assured: we will only ever share your personal information in the limited circumstances described in this Policy.
We do not sell your personal data for money. Sharing device identifiers with advertising partners for personalised advertising may, however, be treated as a "sale" or "sharing" under some privacy laws, including in California. You can prevent this by refusing consent under Settings → Privacy → Ad Preferences. We never sell or share your name, email address, phone number, messages, walk routes, or health and step data.
We limit data sharing. We only share your information when necessary to provide our services, comply with the law, or protect our users.
We vet our partners. We work only with trusted service providers who agree to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
To operate Walk With Me, we share data with these trusted partners:
Infrastructure and hosting:
Payments:
AI services:
Communication services:
Maps and location:
Authentication:
Health platforms:
Advertising partners are listed in the "Advertising" section below. These service providers have access only to the information necessary to perform their specific functions and are contractually obligated to protect your data.
Beyond our service providers, we may share your information in these limited situations:
With organizers you book with: When you book a paid walk or tour, the organizer receives your name and booking details so they can run the walk and check in your ticket.
Legal requirements:
Business transfers: If Walk With Me is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
With your consent: We may share your information for purposes not described in this Policy if we obtain your explicit consent.
Aggregated or anonymized data: We may share aggregated, anonymized data that cannot identify you personally (such as "50% of walks happen on weekends") for research, marketing, or business purposes.
Walk With Me is free to use and supported by advertising. We work with Google AdMob to show ads in the app. AdMob runs an auction for each ad space between Google's own advertising network and a small number of other advertising networks ("mediation partners") listed below, and the highest bid is shown. Ads appear as clearly labelled cards inside the app. We may also offer optional rewarded videos: watching one is always your choice, and in return you receive a temporary ad-free period or a small in-app perk. We never show full-screen ads without you choosing to watch them.
What is shared. When an ad is requested, Google and the mediation partners taking part in that auction receive your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID or Apple IDFA, where you have allowed it), IP address, device and operating system information, app version, and general information about how you interact with ads in the app. Depending on the consent choices you make, Google and its advertising partners may also use precise location data. We do not pass the location the app collects for walks to any mediation partner.
Personalised and non-personalised ads. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any personalised advertising takes place, using Google's certified consent management platform. You can accept, refuse, or choose which purposes you allow. Refusing does not remove ads. You will still see ads, but they will be non-personalised and based on general context rather than your data.
Changing your mind. You can review or withdraw your consent at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy → Ad Preferences. You can also reset or delete your advertising identifier in your device's system settings, which stops it being used to build an advertising profile.
Who receives the data. Google acts as our primary advertising partner and may share data with its own advertising partners. Our mediation partners are Meta Audience Network, Liftoff Monetize, InMobi, Unity Ads and Mintegral; each receives the data described above only when it takes part in an ad auction, and each is an independent controller of that data under its own privacy policy. The full list of advertising partners, including Google's, is shown inside the consent screen in the app. How each company handles this data is described in the documents below.
Removing ads. Walk With Me Premium removes all advertising. No ads are shown and no ad requests are made from a Premium subscriber's device. Every ad card also carries a control that lets you hide it, open your ad settings, or go ad-free.
What we never share. We do not share your name, email address, phone number, messages, walk routes, or health and step data with advertisers.
With all of this in mind, let's talk about how you can take control of your privacy.
