La Rambla

Walking its length is a sensory overload in the best way, with the smell of fresh flowers and roasted nuts mixing with the sound of buskers and the chatter of a dozen languages. It connects Placa de Catalunya at the top to the harbor at the bottom, making it a natural spine for exploring the city on foot. It is touristy, but it is also unmistakably Barcelona.
Barceloneta Beach
This wide sandy beach stretches along the Mediterranean just a short walk from the Gothic Quarter, lined with a lively promenade full of chiringuito beach bars, cyclists, and rollerbladers. Walking the boardwalk here in the late afternoon, with the sun dropping over the water and the smell of grilled seafood in the air, feels like a completely different city than the medieval lanes just inland. You will pass the old fishing quarter's narrow grid streets on your way, adding some history to the seaside stroll. It is the perfect way to end a day of walking through the old town.
Gothic Quarter

Walking up through the terraced gardens, or riding the cable car partway and finishing on foot, takes you past Olympic venues, museums, and the dramatic Magic Fountain at the base of the hill. It is quieter and greener than the crowded streets below, with plenty of shaded benches to rest along the way. Sunset from the Montjuic Castle walls, looking back over the rooftops and the port, is one of the best views in the city.
