For the bigger loop, the Westminster Walk covers more ground, roughly 7.5 kilometers and just under two hours, tracing Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament through Whitehall to Trafalgar Square. From there you'll wind through Covent Garden and past St Paul's Cathedral before crossing the Millennium Bridge toward the Tower of London.
If you'd rather trade traffic for green space, the Royal Parks route links St. James's Park, Green Park, Hyde Park, and Kensington Gardens into one 4 kilometer walk. It's the shortest of the three and a good one to save for a sunny afternoon when you want the narration but not the crowds.

South Bank
The South Bank is one of the liveliest riverside walks in London, a wide paved promenade running past street performers, secondhand book stalls, and food carts with the Thames rolling alongside you. You'll get postcard views of St Paul's and the City skyline across the water, plus landmarks like the London Eye and Tate Modern right along your path. On weekends it fills with skateboarders near the Southbank Centre and crowds drifting toward Borough Market. It's flat, easy walking with something new to look at every few hundred meters.
Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens
Together these two royal parks form one enormous green stretch where you can walk for an hour and barely notice the city around you. The Serpentine lake glints in the middle, rowboats drifting past joggers and dog walkers on the surrounding paths, while grand old plane trees shade the wider avenues. Wander toward Kensington Gardens and you'll find the Italian Gardens and the ornate Albert Memorial framed by open lawns. It's the kind of park that rewards a slow, unplanned stroll rather than a straight line from A to B.
Covent Garden
Covent Garden's cobbled piazza is full of energy, street performers drawing crowds under the old market roof while cafes and flower stalls line the edges. You'll want to poke into the covered Apple Market for handmade crafts and then wander the surrounding lanes packed with shops and theaters. It's a compact, walkable area, but the buzz and the architecture make it easy to spend far longer than you planned. Come in the evening and the whole square glows under string lights with a real West End atmosphere.
Trafalgar Square to Westminster
This stretch takes you past some of London's most recognizable set pieces, from the lions and fountains of Trafalgar Square down Whitehall's grand government buildings to the Gothic towers of Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. You'll pass Downing Street, the Cenotaph, and eventually Big Ben rising over the Thames. It's a walk full of history, with wide pavements that make it comfortable even in a crowd. Plan on a leisurely thirty to forty minutes if you stop to take it all in.
Borough Market
Tucked under railway arches near London Bridge, Borough Market is a feast for the senses, stalls piled with cheese, fresh bread, spices, and street food from every corner of the world. You'll weave through narrow aisles shoulder to shoulder with locals doing their weekly shop and tourists grabbing lunch. The mix of Victorian ironwork overhead and modern food stalls below gives it a great atmosphere, part historic market, part food hall. It pairs naturally with a South Bank walk, so plan to arrive hungry.
