What to expect on a Paris audio walking tour
Paris gets three narrated walks instead of one, because the Marais, Montmartre, and the riverside grand sights each deserve their own unhurried afternoon.
The Marais walk starts at Hotel de Ville and slips into Saint-Gervais Church before leading you through Village Saint-Paul's quiet courtyards to the arcaded elegance of Place des Vosges. From there the route passes the Musee Carnavalet and threads down Rue des Rosiers and Rue Vieille du Temple, finishing near the Centre Pompidou, at 3.4 kilometers of some of the city's most walkable streets.
Up in the north, the Montmartre walk starts at the Moulin Rouge and climbs through Place des Abbesses and past the Wall of Love before Rue Lepic leads you up through the old Montmartre Vineyard. The narration delivers you to the Sacre-Coeur Basilica and its sweeping view over the city, then loops through Place du Tertre and past the Espace Dali on the way back down.
The third route follows the Seine itself, starting on Ile de la Cite and passing right by the Louvre before crossing the Tuileries Garden to Place de la Concorde. It finishes with a walk over the Pont Alexandre III toward the Eiffel Tower. Tuileries Garden
This formal garden stretches between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde, its gravel paths lined with manicured trees, classical statues, and round fountains where you can pull up a green metal chair and rest. Children sail toy boats in the ponds while others enjoy the small funfair rides near Concorde. Framed views open up toward the Louvre's glass pyramid on one end and the Champs Elysees on the other. It's a graceful, open air walk right through the center of the city.
Le Marais
Cobblestone streets in the Marais wind past centuries old mansions, trendy boutiques, and cozy falafel shops all packed close together. You'll come across the perfectly symmetrical Place des Vosges, one of the oldest and most beautiful squares in Paris, with arcaded walkways and a shaded central garden.
