Walking Literally Makes You Think Better

593

Alright, here's a fact about walking that actually blew my mind.

The Experiment

Researchers had a group of people sit quietly for 20 minutes and then take a test. Then they sent them out for a 25 minute walk. Nothing crazy, just a regular walk. They came back, took the same test, and every single person scored higher.

The Brain Scans Weren't Even Close

And when they looked at the brain scans, it wasn't even close. After walking, the brain was lighting up in areas that were basically dead after sitting. So walking literally makes you think better. It improves your focus, your memory, everything.

Use It Before Big Days

Next time you have a big meeting or an exam, just go walk for 20 minutes first. You'll thank me later. I actually use Walk With Me before important days. I open it up, see if there's anyone walking nearby, and just go. Something about walking with another person gets my brain going even more. It's one of the quiet perks of treating walking and fitness as something social rather than a solo grind, and it's the whole reason I lean on a walking app built around company. You can also track every walk so the habit sticks.

And the focus boost is only half of it. Walking also calms your nervous system in a way that surprised me when I first read about it.

Check it out, it's free on the App Store and Google Play.
